Project: Nano Warriors

School: Bergen County Academies

Facilitator: Evelyn Rios

Mentors: Jim Lowry, Robert Pergolizzi, Donna Leonardi

Team Members: Jessica K., Krizia A., Linda Z. Bhumi P.

Description of Project:

Cystic fibrosis is an escalating phenomenon with detrimental effects. A major part of this life shortening disease is the presence of excess mucus in the lungs. Currently, there is no cure and the only option for victims is periodically coughing up the build up of mucus. We propose packaging a chemical (possibly a gene since cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease) into an inhalable nanoparticle, which will eventually release the chemical into the lungs, reducing the mucus synthesis.

Project: Overpopulation

School: Brooklyn Technical High School

Facilitator: Brook Green

Mentor: Brett Williams

Team Members: Zhile Z., Shahruk S., Dong Hui L., Raymond Y.

Description of Project:

The main objective of our team is to figure out a possible solution that can make over population less of a problem, by easing some of its consequences. In order to make desert habitable, one of the most important factors is water supply; we decided to test deserts near oceans first, since we can use desalination to get supply of fresh water.

ProjectRadar Watch

School:  Bergen County Academies

Facilitator: Evelyn Rios

Mentor:  Peter Eisengrein, GPX Enterprises

Team Members: Rich L, Jason C, Joel M

Description of Project:

Our Techxplore project focused on the creation of an electronic device that would help aid soldiers in battle by providing invaluable vital information, a graphical outlay of the surroundings, and a live-feed to army commanders. One major restriction present in the army is the speed of medical help. It takes too much time for the appropriate medical attention to be attained. Thus we need to find ways to prevent possible injuries and provide medical information.

School:  Delaware Valley Middle School

Facilitator: Scott Llewellyn

Mentor:  Don Evans, Lazuli.com

Team Members: Joshua S, Lauren G, Jennifer P, Alexander B, Shannon B

Our project is to create a bacteria-eliminating container that’ll be stored in refrigerators. The owner can place foods that are highly susceptible to bacteria in the container to help prevent food poisoning. The container will have a mechanism that will emit sound waves capable of destroying bacteria’s nuclei which will lead to the bacteria no longer having harmful effects. The outside of the box will be covered with soundproof material to stop sound from affecting other products.
